Smart Cookie: Lucy Wright, Founder Of Wunderthings - Ecobuy
reusable underwear for women periods

1) Could you tell us a little bit about yourself, and what’s your business about?

I was born and bred on the northern beaches of Sydney, which I still call home with my wonderful husband and 3 boys. After finishing high school, I went on to study Fashion Design and worked in the industry for a few years before deciding it wasn’t for me and made the move to floristry (which I love).

Wunderthings is a new environmentally friendly way to period. We design and make leak preventing, planet protecting enviromenstral underwear that empowers women and lets them easily make a positive choice for our planet.

2) Do you have a morning routine? If so what do you do to set yourself up for the day ahead?

With 3 boys, mornings are pretty hectic so I usually prepare for the day ahead in the evening – mentally going through what needs to be done, who needs to go where and when etc. quite often this involves writing a list Every morning I am woken by demanding cats a little too early for my liking, I give the boys their first wake up call, shower and get myself ready and then chase the kids out of the house with my list in hand.

3) Why did you choose to go sustainable and eco friendly?

I think everyone now realises that we need to change the way we live and I felt that waiting for government to legislate change wasn’t going to happen fast enough. I feel if everyone were to make little changes in their daily routines, then collectively we can change consumer behavior and have a positive effect on our world. Reducing our waste and use of disposable products was my focus. So when we created Wunderthings, we decided our manufacturing process, logistics and packaging all had to
be as earth friendly and ethical as we could source.

4) What was the hardest part of starting your own business?

Definitely overcoming procrastination. I had done all the work in setting up Wunderthngs for a whole year before taking the leap. We found our supplier, had samples made and confirmed we even had the business name registered and logo designed. It was really Covid-19 and the impact it had on our income and the future viability of our other business that was the catalyst to take action. We were pushed way out of our comfort zone and had to sink or swim.
