1) Could you tell us a little about yourself and what’s your business about?
My name is Kailah & I’m the founder & formulator at MG Naturals. I never wanted to formulate & manufacture my own beauty products. I would have been so happy curating & selling other peoples makeup.
The thought of making my own products, made me feel queasy (it still does some days). I was more than a little scared of what was involved. All the research, All the work, All the new things to learn & master.
But all the so-called “green” makeup brands used ingredients that I wouldn’t & couldn’t use on my three girls. And if I wouldn’t use it on the skin of my little loves. How could I ask you to put it on your skin & the skin of your loved ones.
I couldn’t! and that is how MG Natural’s came to be.
2) Do you have a morning routine? If so, what is it you do to set yourself up for the day ahead?
In the mornings (in all honesty) it’s often a mad rush to get everyone ready & out the door. But once I am at my desk I take time to prime my day with a green tea & a little meditation, I also write my top 5 goals out each morning & list 10 things I am grateful for to start my day out on a positive note.
3) Why did you choose to go sustainable and eco-friendly?
I have three little girls & the decisions I make today will effect them & their children to come, so we try to be as sustainable & eco-conscious as we can so they will inherit a planet that is in good shape.
4) What was the hardest part of starting your own business?
I think having the courage to start & all the myriad of things you have to learn. As in the beginning you have to wear all the hats, web designer, accountant, product design, social media manager etc. So it can be a steep (but fun!) learning curve.
5) One book and/or documentary everyone should read/watch? Why?
The documentary Toxic Beauty – prior to beginning my career in green beauty I presumed that if you could buy a product off the shelf it had to be safe. I was horrified to find that this wasn’t the case. That there are so many toxic, un-safe & potentially dangerous products lining the shelves of my favourite beauty stores.
6) Best piece of advice you have ever received?
Life is not a dress rehearsal, don’t wait for the right time, just do it, imperfectly today!
