Smart Cookie: Courtney Love, Founder Of Bend
1) Could you tell us a little about yourself and what’s your business about?

My name is Courtney Love. I am 30 years old, married to my sweetheart and have a beautiful 1 year old son. I am a Production Manager by day and a Yoga Instructor by night. I also am the founder of the custom Bend Cork Yoga Mat. As well as producing eco-friendly, sustainable cork products, I teach Yoga both online and in-studio.

If you are a member of Bend by Courtney, you have unlimited access to my Yoga classes, as well as daily meditations and worksheets. I am extremely passionate about health and protecting both your mental and physical states.

2) Do you have a morning routine? If so, what is it you do to set yourself up for the day ahead?

Absolutely. Being a mother to a toddler means I need a strict routine to get anything done. I aim to wake up an hour before my son. During this time, I meditate for 15 minutes, drink my morning coffee in silence (usually with mushrooms or collagen powder) and just sit in peace. No TV, no noise, no distractions. This hour of calm is so important. I do not check my phone within the first hour of waking. I don’t care how busy I am.

Checking your phone as soon as you wake, puts your body under unnecessary stress. You are bombarded with notifications, negative news and to-do lists. For anyone who suffers with anxiety or nervous tension, I urge you to try not checking your phone when you first wake. You will feel the difference.

3) Why did you choose to go sustainable and eco-friendly?

I hated the idea of working out on a plastic mat that would be leaching toxins and ultimately damaging both my health and the environment. I am very passionate about protecting our planet and although I have a long way to go, I am always looking to be more conscious.

4)What was the hardest part of starting your own business?

Starting your own business takes a lot of patience. I have a tendency to want to get in and get stuff done straight away. The hardest part for me was being patient as it takes months for things to come together. There is a lot of waiting when you first start a business. Waiting for samples, quotes, things to be shipped etc. Covid hasn’t made it any easier either. I am a hard worker, so patience is definitely the hardest part for me.

5) One book and/or documentary everyone should read/watch? Why?

Think like a Monk by Jay Shetty – my all time favourite book. Everyone is so highly strung these days. I believe the lessons and values taught in this book can help absolutely everyone. Meditation is a must. I don’t care who you are, or how little time you have, it’s vital to meditate daily.

6) Best piece of advice you have ever received?

If it won’t matter in five years, don’t spend five minutes worrying about it. Remembering this piece of advice has saved me a lot of heartache.
